Having been swept away into the Colca Canyon shortly after arriving in Arequipa, we’d barely had a chance to explore it yet. Luckily for us, our onward journey was another lovely night bus which didn’t leave until 8.30pm. So explore it we did…

…for about 20 minutes, before we were so easily tempted into white water rafting! Emile and Margarida mentioned how much fun it was during our trek through the Colca Canyon a few days back, and for £12 this felt like a bargain!
Back on a minibus it was!
Ironically, our journey to the rafting experience provided that perfect snap of El Misti I’d be chasing all day!

Confession time… I may have accidentally told Jamie to put his wetsuit on the wrong way! Oooops 😂😂
The guys running this were great fun, and thankfully had camera guys positioned all along the river to grab those snaps while we desperately tried to fight rapids and smile simultaneously!

As we battled the rapids, my confidence grew and grew that white water rafting was merely simulated danger, and there was not really any genuine risk. If you feel now is about the perfect time for me to be proven wrong, enjoy the following GoPro footage, clipped and slowed down for your enjoyment 😂
Between a 3 day trek, a 1000m ascent on a mule, and an unplanned backwards somersault into a river, it’s fair to say ‘Arequipa + Surrounding Areas’ had taken their toll on my body!
Was I ready to move on to Cuzco? Was I ever!
See you on the next one…
